Leaving the town of Napa and heading towards the culinary destination of Yountville, the first winery visitors encounter is the family-owned Trefethen winery. While it is necessary to make reservations in advance for a tour of the historic winery, no reservations are necessary to have a taste of the estate's creations. A Trefethen wine tasting is available daily, from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Guests have two choices of tastings: a simple tasting for $10 per person or a Winemaker’s Reserve tasting for $25 per person. Visitors get to sample Trefethen wines in the historic building of the winery, built in 1886. This tasting is a great introduction to Napa Valley estate wines.
Trefethen wine tasting can also continue long after you leave Napa, as their wines are available through a wine club. You can have bottles delivered four times a year as part of your membership and can also earn discounts on other purchases and gifts. Many visitors leave the Trefethen tasting room with a membership to a wine club even if they originally didn’t think they would purchase one, as the wines are excellent and this family enterprise is one that many wine-lovers are happy to support. After sampling some Napa Valley estate wines, continue north to Yountville for more examples of Northern California hospitality, and be sure to bring plenty of Trefethen wines home with you.
