Claude Moet purchased land in Northern California and was successful in his venture. In 1976 the visitor’s center of Domaine Chandon opened its doors to share its sparkling wine. The development of the Domaine Chandon vineyards occurred over time, as different varietals were tested. Ultimately, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier proved superior. Some Napa vineyards offer only one or two options for tours, but this is not the case with Domaine Chandon. From the basic 35-minute guided tours followed by a tasting of five select still and sparkling wines to an "epicurean tour and tasting" there are many affordable options for visitors. For guests who aren’t interested in tasting the wines, a basic tour is available, without the fee for sampling wines.
