Peju winery offers award-winning wines in a sophisticated environment. Tastings are offered daily from 10 am to 6 pm and include a variety of white and red wines. Peju in Napa is made up of two vineyards: the Rutherford Estate Vineyard and the Persephone vineyard. Organic and sustainable farming practices are firmly in place at the Peju vineyards, where the attention to detail begins in their quest to create fine wines. During a visit, guests will experience the 50-foot tasting room tower, manicured gardens, and if interested, wine events and classes.
The beginning of any good wine is the soil. Grapes have been grown on the land of the Peju vineyards since the early 1900s. With deep soil that is well-drained, the vineyards exhibit excellent growing conditions for grapes. During any visit to the Peju winery, you will learn all about the terroir that produces these wines. In 1990, some of the vineyards were replanted to ensure that the grapes best-suited to creating Napa wine would be planted. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc are all grown in these vineyards, and all make contributions to the complex wine.
If you wish to visit Peju in Napa, making a reservation isn’t necessary. For groups of eight people or fewer, it is possible to arrive and taste for a fee of $10. Groups are brought to a tasting room where a "Peju ambassador" explains the story behind each wine. For those guests who are seeking a bit more than a wine tasting, food and wine pairing courses are available as well; enjoy tapas and cheese with your wine for a different Peju experience. If you’re interested in a further customized experience, Peju winery can arrange a private event with the chef, including a visit to the kitchen.
Peju in Napa is also known for its gardens. Sycamore and willow trees share the soil with red Pillar roses and a variety of other flowers throughout the year. The winery also features rotating art exhibits. The art is available for viewing and purchasing, and a Meet the Artists event usually accompanies each exhibition. This family-owned winery displays personal touches, from the art to the garden to the tasting rooms. Two generations are now involved in the winery, as founder Tony Peju and his wife Herta are now joined by their two daughters, Lisa and Ariana.
If you’d like to continue sampling wines from the Peju vineyards long after your trip to Napa Valley is over, wine clubs are available. With options for the casual wine drinker, serious wine connoisseur, and every type in between, the Peju wine club will deliver memories from your Napa vacation right to your front door. Between St Helena and Yountville, this family run winery is a great stop on any trip to wine country, particularly if you're looking to have a vacation that centers on culinary delights, as it is also within an easy driving distance of the Culinary Institute of America and its Greystone Restaurant.
